Privacy policy
Last updated November 7, 2026
Mud (mudstudio.io and the Mud app) is run by Joseph Lee in New York. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. The short version: we collect what's needed to run your account and show your work, we don't sell your data, and we don't show ads.
What we collect
- Your account. When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name and email address (Apple may give us a private relay address instead). We never see your password.
- Your profile. Your username, and anything you choose to add: display name, bio, city, Instagram handle and website.
- What you post. Pieces, photos, short videos, notes, the glazes and clays you used, the studios you belong to, glazes you add, what you save, who you follow, and reports. We remove location (GPS) data from photos and videos when you upload them, and camera details from photos.
- Sign-in sessions. To keep you signed in and secure, we store a session cookie, and with each session the IP address and browser or device type it came from.
- Whether you use the app. When you use the Mud app, we note the date, so the website doesn't keep suggesting it to you.
- Usage analytics. We use PostHog to count page views and the buttons and forms people use, so we know what to improve. When you're signed in, these are linked to your account ID (not your name or email). We don't record sessions or the text you type, and we respect your browser's Do Not Track setting.
What's public
Your username and profile are public, and so are the pieces you log, at every stage: their photos, videos, notes, stages and the materials you list are visible to anyone, and may appear on studio and glaze pages. Studio membership, who you follow and who follows you show on your profile and studio pages. Private notes and what a piece sold for are only ever shown to you. Don't log anything else you'd rather keep to yourself; you can delete a piece or your account at any time.
How we use it
To run Mud: show your pieces and profile, let you sign in, connect you with studios and materials, keep the site safe (moderating reports and preventing abuse), and understand which features help people. We don't sell your information, use it for advertising, or share it except as described here.
Services we rely on
- Cloudflare hosts the website and API and stores the database and photos.
- Google and Apple handle sign-in, if you choose them.
- PostHog (US) provides the usage analytics described above.
They process data on our behalf under their own privacy and security terms. Your data is stored in the United States.
Your choices
- See and edit your profile and pieces at any time in the app or on the website.
- Delete your account from Settings on the website or Profile in the app. That removes your account, profile, pieces and photos. Copies in our backups are overwritten within 30 days.
- Ask us anything, including for a copy of your data, at joey@mudstudio.io.
Cookies
We use a cookie to keep you signed in, and PostHog uses browser storage to count visits. We don't use advertising cookies.
Children
Mud isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has an account, tell us and we'll remove it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and let you know on the site. Questions: joey@mudstudio.io. See also the terms of use.
